The events unfold in 1966. Henry Ford II (Tracy Lattes) is initiating the development of a fundamentally new car that could outpace the eternal Ferrari rival. At the time, Ferrari had a series of 6 wins in a row. Genius engineer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and racer Ken Miles (Christian Bale) took the job. Finishing first in a 24-hour Le Mans race is their dream and a lifelong business.
