During the Second World War, Marcel Marceau joined the French Resistance under the influence of his cousin, Georges Loinger, and his brother, Simon. He helped save thousands of orphans during the war. He is said to have learned mime, in part, in order to help these children, whose parents were killed by the Nazis, to escape.
